The
reunion between Bella and Edward here is beautiful and frightening. They kiss
and hug and look into each other’s eyes. They cannot get enough of each other.
Yet, Bella doesn’t believe that Edward still wants her. She is mentally stuck
in the forest behind Charlie’s house, where Edward said that he didn’t love
her. Bella believes the lie from his mouth more than the truth from his
actions. Why do you think that is? Sometimes it is easier to believe a lie than
accept the truth. Avoiding the scale is easier than accepting the truth of
weight gain. Ignoring the checkbook is easier than knowing the truth of an
account balance. Believing what a boyfriend says about your body is easier than
facing yourself in the mirror.
Have you
ever experienced this realization in your own life? The truth is always better
in God. The world says that you are not beautiful unless you are physically
perfect. God says that we are beautiful because we are made in His image. The
world says that you are not valuable unless you are the best in everything. God
says that we are valuable because we are chosen specifically by Him. The world
says that you are not acceptable unless you look like and act like everyone
else. God says that we are acceptable in His sight, no matter what we bring to
the table. Ephesians 2:19-22 says that we are no longer wandering exiles or
strangers or outsiders. We have a new home. We don’t have to worry about
fitting into any stereotype or being a certain way to be accepted into this
social circle. God has built a new house in Jesus Christ that accepts all
people. It is a truth that is much better than the lie.
